Personification examples in literature: A teacher’s guide

By Mattie Farrer

Personification is a form of figurative language where an author gives human characteristics to something that is not human. The sun smiles down on the meadow, for example, is an example of personification. The sun does not have a face and cannot smile, but the use of personification in this instance creates a happy and pleasant scene.
