Mattie Farrer has been an educator in various grade levels and capacities during her career. She has a passion for supporting English learners and their language development. She also loves helping teachers reach all students.
Mattie Farrer is currently the English Department Chair at the brand new Eagle Mountain High School in Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD in Saginaw, Texas. In this role she teaches English learners and advanced English 2.
Previously she worked as the AVID Site Coordinator at Wayside Middle School, also in EMSISD. In this position she helped students learn about organization and self determination. She helped foster a college going environment on her campus.
She has also been an instructional coach in Lake Worth Independent School District. This position allowed her to provide classroom teachers with mentorship and professional learning.
While in Lake Worth, she also taught high school (US 9th-12th grades) English as a second language. Teaching English learners is a particular passion for her. She loves helping students develop their language skills and learning about their backgrounds as well. In the 2020-2021 school year she was named Teacher of the Year for Lake Worth High School.
For several years, she worked as an English learner instructional specialist for Cleburne Independent School District. This position was one that allowed her to grow and become a better educator. In this position she was accepted to be a presenter at the Texas Computer Educators Association (TCEA) conference in Austin, Texas. These presentations focused on how to use technology to support student language development.
During her time at Cleburne ISD, she was the project coordinator for the Texas Education Agency’s English Learner Pilot Program. This program introduced a rubric for school districts to use to improve their English learner programs.
Her experiences also include teaching middle school (US 7th and 8th grades) social studies and English language arts and reading for English learners. While teaching middle school she coached the girls tennis team and sponsored the Spirit Squad. In addition to middle school, she has taught 5th grade social students and ELAR.
Early in her career she spent time as a substitute librarian. During this time, she learned how to coordinate the school’s book fair, address teacher technology concerns, and became an expert at unjamming the copy machine.
Being an educator is something that comes naturally to her, as her mother was an educator for 30+ years. Education has allowed her the privilege to impact the lives of students and other educators.
She has been working part time for ClickView since October 2023. Not only has she contributed to the blog, but she has also created resources and curated content videos. She thoroughly enjoys her work for ClickView and hopes that what she creates is helpful to both teachers and students.
