Preservation Virginia
Preservation Virginia works across three areas of focus - preservation, education and advocacy - to save and protect Virginia's historic places. It owns and maintains six properties open to the public and partners with communities across the state to extend those efforts to historic places and neighborhoods everywhere. Through educational programs and its role as a trusted resource, the organization shares guidance and expertise with groups and individuals across Virginia, and advocates with decision-makers to communicate the economic and cultural value of preservation and to strengthen preservation-related policy.
Preservation Virginia is a privately funded, statewide historic preservation leader. Its mission is to inspire and engage the public in fostering, supporting, and sustaining Virginia's historic places through leadership in advocacy, education, revitalization, and stewardship. The oldest statewide preservation organization in the nation, it works to ensure the relevancy of the Commonwealth's historic places. It is steward of six locations open to the public, including Bacon's Castle, Cape Henry Lighthouse, Patrick Henry's Scotchtown, Historic Jamestowne, the John Marshall House, and Smith's Fort. Through advocacy, education, and partnerships, it has worked to preserve nearly 500 locations around the Commonwealth.
