The Missoula Butterfly House and Insectarium was founded in 2009 by passionate bug enthusiasts eager to bring a butterfly house to Missoula, officially incorporating as a 501(c)3 in early 2011. It opened the Missoula Insectarium in downtown Missoula in 2015, and on December 5, 2023 opened the Missoula Butterfly House and Insectarium, Montana's first tropical butterfly house. Its mission is to inspire an appreciation and understanding of insects and their relatives, envisioning generations ignited by lifelong curiosity and awe for the natural world.
