Bringing Shakespeare to life
Let’s be honest.
Shakespeare can be a tough sell when a student is staring at a page full of unfamiliar language and wondering why everyone keeps speaking in riddles.
The challenge isn’t that Shakespeare’s stories are boring. Quite the opposite. They’re packed with ambition, romance, betrayal, revenge, family drama, mistaken identities and some truly terrible decision-making.
But great Shakespeare teaching goes beyond simply following the plot. It asks students to wrestle with bigger questions. Why does Macbeth make the choices he makes? What can Romeo and Juliet tell us about conflict, loyalty and identity?
That’s where the myShakespeare channel on ClickView comes in. Bringing together performance clips, character-focused videos and rich contextual resources, the channel helps transform Shakespeare from something students read into something they can actually see, hear and connect with. Created for secondary students studying Shakespeare, it provides the support and context needed to make some of English literature’s most iconic texts more accessible and engaging.
Meet the minds behind the channel
myShakespeare began with a simple question: How can we help more students connect with Shakespeare?
Co-founded by Greg Watkins, the project grew out of a passion for making great literature more accessible and engaging for today’s learners. Greg’s background spans both humanities education and filmmaking, bringing together a deep understanding of Shakespeare with a belief in the power of storytelling and visual media.
Today, the team includes Chief Content Officer Sally Treanor and Instructional Designer and Equity Specialist Jamie Litton, alongside a group of inspiring educators and creators. Their combined experience in English literature, curriculum design, digital learning and secondary education shapes everything you’ll find in the channel.

Making Shakespeare click
The team behind myShakespeare believes that engagement comes first. When students feel connected to the story, everything else starts to fall into place.
That’s why the channel is designed to support students every step of the way. Alongside performance clips and character-focused content, you’ll find videos that break down Shakespeare’s language, unpack historical references and explain key literary devices. Rather than dropping students straight into unfamiliar text, the channel helps them build confidence and understanding piece by piece.

“Studying Shakespeare is so much more effective when students are engaged with the play. Our video performance clips, character interviews, and context videos supercharge student engagement. Your students will be entertained, informed, and curious to learn more.”
– Greg Watkins, Co-founder, myShakespeare
That philosophy runs throughout the myShakespeare channel on ClickView. By combining performance, context and literary analysis in one place, the channel helps Shakespeare feel less intimidating, more accessible and far more engaging for today’s students.
From “What’s happening?” to “Why does it matter?”
Understanding the plot is only the beginning.
Shakespeare’s plays have survived for more than 400 years not because of their plots, but because of the questions they ask that are still relevant today. Why do people pursue power at all costs? What happens when loyalty and ambition collide? How much control do we really have over our own choices?
The myShakespeare channel helps students move from comprehension to interpretation. Through character analysis, thematic exploration and discussion-ready content, students are encouraged to think more deeply about the ideas behind the text and develop their own perspectives.
For teachers, it’s a practical way to support critical thinking while creating opportunities for richer discussions, stronger analysis and more meaningful connections with the plays.
