American Civil War Museum
The American Civil War Museum's premier artifact collection, immersive exhibitions and diverse programming explore the most critical period in America's history: the Civil War era. Visitors encounter the stories of soldiers and civilians locked in a struggle over the future of the nation, examined from multiple perspectives, including Union and Confederate, enslaved and free African Americans, and soldiers and civilians alike.
The American Civil War Museum is a multi-site museum in the Greater Richmond Region of central Virginia. It maintains three sites: The American Civil War Museum at Tredegar and the White House of the Confederacy, both in Richmond, Virginia, and The American Civil War Museum-Appomattox, in Appomattox, Virginia. Formed in 2013 through the consolidation of the American Civil War Center and the Museum of the Confederacy, the Museum's flagship site sits at Tredegar on the banks of the James River in Richmond. Its mission is to be the preeminent center for the exploration of the American Civil War and its legacies.
