National Center for Atmospheric Research
NSF NCAR provides the atmospheric and Earth system science community with high-performance supercomputers, observational tools, sophisticated computer models, and extensive data sets. Its in-house staff of researchers and engineers works with community collaborators to meet today's greatest scientific challenges, producing scientific publications and offering rich education and outreach opportunities, from fellowships for early career scientists to free public lectures and scientific workshops.
NSF NCAR was established by the U.S. National Science Foundation in 1960 to accelerate the country's ability to understand and predict atmospheric behavior and catalyze scientific discovery. Since its inception as NSF's first federally funded research and development center, it has been managed by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), a nonprofit consortium of more than 120 colleges and universities, headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, with additional facilities in Wyoming and Hawaii.
