Supporting staff with content creation, curation and secure assessment
Neil Nodzak, Learning Technologist at Edinburgh College, has experienced first-hand the evolution of ClickView at the college.
"At Edinburgh College, our experience with ClickView has evolved from using local desktops—accessible only in college—to a completely cloud- and browser-based platform. Students can now access it on multiple devices, including their phones."

Transforming learning for a breadth of performance-based subjects
Over time, more staff have engaged with ClickView, creating their own content or recording talks delivered by visiting artists. Allan Holligan, Lecturer in Contemporary Art Practice, explains: “I’ve been using it to record talks by our visiting artists programme and our artists in residence. We record and upload those to ClickView and then link them through Moodle to the various playlists.”
Staff frequently embed ClickView videos directly into their VLE course pages, keeping students engaged with relevant content. With so many potential distractions, interactive videos have proven useful for retaining attention. “Staff can sprinkle in questions, add supplementary information, and link additional resources to the video. Every three or four minutes, students receive extra context related to their unit of study.” Another benefit is that staff can see in real time how a class is engaging with content and identify knowledge gaps. “Teachers get very excited when they see the interactive videos and the analytics presented,” says Neil.

Video is becoming increasingly important in departments with performance-based subjects. In Performing Arts, Sport, Fitness, Contemporary Art, and Film and TV, students need to be recorded completing specific elements to fulfill course requirements. Several departments have become ClickView “success stories,” according to Neil. The Performing Arts and Music departments, for example, use ClickView to support learning and teaching in innovative ways. “The Music department at Sandhill campus constantly uses it. Students who need to get comfortable being filmed for performance can do so, and the content is quickly uploaded to ClickView for access and feedback.”
Jo Turbitt, Curriculum Leader for Performing Arts, describes how Dance and Drama staff use ClickView: “Students can access programmes that have been on TV, while staff demonstrate additional learning resources from around the world. We also use ClickView to store assessment evidence safely and securely, which is essential for external verification reports.”
ClickView also supports the flipped classroom model. From a learning technologist’s perspective, Neil explains: “The biggest benefit of the flipped classroom is its ability to facilitate distance learning and night courses for students who may never physically access the college.” Jo adds a teacher’s perspective.”
Jo reflects on the challenge of shifting students from passive learners: “Students expect the teacher to provide all knowledge, but they are slowly realizing that they have something to contribute."
"By flipping the classroom, students experience powerful blended learning. They can see learning happening inside the classroom and all around them, encouraging them to think beyond the idea of learning being confined to four walls and a teacher."

The introduction of Single Sign-On (SSO) has improved the ClickView experience for staff. Neil notes: “Before SSO, programmes had to go through the admin. Now, staff can edit, create, and add descriptions of content themselves. Having more ownership increases investment.”
Feedback from staff has been very positive. “Colleagues enjoy using ClickView, and the interface is easy to understand. Every course benefits from having more dynamic video content.” Creating content banks also saves time in the long term. Allan explains: “ClickView allows us to build an archive of work that can be reused in classrooms year after year. Students can access this archive anytime, which adds value and flexibility.”
Looking ahead, Jo sees even more potential in ClickView.
"There’s a huge community of educational resources on ClickView that I haven’t explored yet. The global sharing of resources is incredibly valuable."
