Movies + TV Highlights
Covering media literacy, the history of luxury, and the science of disease, this month’s showcase titles cover big ideas for the classroom.
- Trust Me: Trust Me is an award winning documentary that brings awareness to people’s need for media and information literacy to lessen polarization, foster trust and resilience, and preserve democracy. Educators can dive more deeply into the subject matter thanks to the companion guide produced with the News Literacy Project. The guide offers collegiate and parental discussion guides to go along with the film to encourage critical thinking in students using creative fact-checking, media consumption, and creation modules. Students are encouraged to utilize the seven quality standards professional journalists use when creating and sharing posts and content online, becoming more trustworthy communicators and citizens in the process. Watch: Trust Me.

- Golden Opulence: A History of Luxury: Take your students on a journey through the history of luxury in Anatolia, exploring fashion, art, food, and architecture across millennia. Watch Golden Opulence
- Disease X: Hunting the Next Pandemic: From BBC Two, this pandemic-focused special follows Dr Chris van Tulleken as he investigates the global hunt for a virus deadlier than Covid-19. It was the most requested programme in September and is ideal for sparking discussions about science, health, and global citizenship. Watch Disease X

Finally, we’re spotlighting a practical teaching tool designed to optimise using video in the classroom.
“Hook and Activate” is a one-page resource designed to help teachers set students up for successful learning before watching a video. Each guide includes a “Hook” to spark curiosity and an “Activate Prior Knowledge” task to connect new learning to what students already know. This approach supports inclusive practice, reduces cognitive load, and gives all learners a meaningful entry point into the topic.
