We’re excited to announce a new, free video series exploring the story, impact and legacy of the Ulster-Scots – or Scots-Irish – in America.
The Ulster-Scots in America is a collection of nine animated videos designed for both primary and secondary classrooms. Developed in the run-up to America’s 250th anniversary this July, the series explores the experiences of the Ulster-Scots during America’s founding era through the lens of four key states: Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Combining engaging animation with expert historical insight, the series helps students explore the people, communities and cultural influences that helped shape early America. The videos have been created to support classroom learning while encouraging curiosity, discussion and deeper engagement with this shared history.
The project was devised by Makematic and delivered in partnership with ClickView following ClickView’s acquisition of the Belfast-based studio earlier this year.

Northern Ireland has become an important part of ClickView’s story, and we’re proud to support projects that showcase the region’s creativity, expertise and rich cultural heritage. We’re grateful to the Ulster Scots Broadcast Fund, our project partners, and the historians, educators and subject experts whose support has helped bring this series to life for classrooms around the world.
Edward Filetti, ClickView CEO
It was produced by our Northern Ireland-based team with the generous support of the Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund where the project forms part of a wider programme of educational initiatives marking the historic connections between Ulster and the United States ahead of the anniversary year.
Makematic and ClickView have created an exceptional series of educational videos in this Semiquincentenary anniversary of American Independence. It was always our ambition to mark the significant role played by Ulster-Scots people in the founding of a new nation and this project has achieved just that for both a local and American student audience.
Heidi McAlpin, Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund Manager

Alongside the videos, teachers can soon access supporting classroom resources designed to help bring the content into lessons and support learning across different age groups.
We’d like to give special thanks to Dr David Hume MBE for his guidance and contribution to the project and to the American Battlefield Trust and Driving Force Institute for Public Engagement for their support of our wider state-by-state US history series.
