For August’s Movies + TV highlights, we have curated a range of factual and fun series as part of our educational catalogue.
From Pixar, Soul (England)(Scotland) follows a school band teacher who is struggling with a mid-life crisis. The film has been critically acclaimed both for its story and soundtrack, probing at existential questions surrounding life and death. The animation balances moments of comedy and poignance, offering something for all ages.
Beardy Bodo (England)(Scotland) combines geography lessons with light entertainment, through grouchy protagonist Bodo. Aimed at primary aged learners, the series delves into topics from travel, culture and history. The short episodes are perfect for improving memory and literacy, complemented by a dynamic animation style.
The Odyssey with Dan Snow (England)(Scotland) explores Homer’s epic through touring locations across Greece that inspired the ancient tale. From the ruins of Troy to the city of Mycenae, Snow provides an accessible retelling of The Odyssey within its historical context. Snow is joined by classicists, translators and archaeologists who decode the nuances of the original source.
From BBC, the documentary series Evolution (England)(Scotland) unpacks the four-billion-year history of life on Earth. Presented by Chris Packkam, the episodes detail how animals such as elephants and ostriches came to be. Co-produced with Open University, this series is an invaluable resource for students learning about ecology and biodiversity.

This month’s new Topics for Primary students explore the importance of sleep, moving with dance and building confidence with times tables. Secondary students can delve into the fundamentals of mobility exercises, step into a moment of calm with mindfulness activities and explore the historical background, key events and conditions that shape the changing roles of women.
