The mission of the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Center is to conserve and protect all species of marine turtles, both in the water and on the beach. It accomplishes this through the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sick and injured sea turtles; public education regarding the plight of sea turtles and the threat of their extinction; and learning opportunities for students of biology, wildlife conservation, and veterinary medicine from around the world. A nonprofit organization, the Center views its work as a privilege and is honored to work with these magnificent creatures. The Center is based in Surf City, North Carolina, and offers guided public tours. May 1 through October 31 is sea turtle nesting season on Topsail Island; the Center encourages beaches to stay clean, dark, and flat to protect nesting females and hatchlings.
