Overview

Howick College adopted ClickView to support teaching and learning through a period of rapid technological change, ensuring video resources remained accessible, centralised, and easy to use across the school.

"Our school has been subscribing to ClickView since 2015. I have no idea how we would manage video resources without it now."

Challenge

With large collections of DVDs and video content spread across departments, Howick College faced a major disruption when new teacher laptops no longer included CD players. At the same time, many schools were not built to support modern digital infrastructure, making staff hesitant to adopt new technology.

"There was a huge scramble to replace the ability for teachers to play their favourite movies and documentaries for students... Very few New Zealand schools were built to accommodate the internet… teachers could be a bit apprehensive."

Solution

ClickView enabled the school to digitise and consolidate video resources from across all learning areas into a single platform. Teachers gained access to copyright-compliant movies and free-to-air TV, while integration with Google Classroom and Accessit made it easy to share and catalogue content alongside other library resources.

"It has allowed us to consolidate video resources from across the school so they are available to all teachers and students as required... We can share links to movies and documentaries via Google Classroom... Those resources are searched via the catalogue and are able to be viewed immediately by students."

Outcome

ClickView has become an essential teaching tool, supporting both in-class and remote learning. Teachers across subjects use video more confidently, while students benefit from being able to revisit content anytime. During Covid, this accessibility ensured continuity of learning, and ongoing use has improved engagement and ease of delivery in the classroom.

"The staff members who use ClickView are really impressed. It was particularly useful during Covid when students were able to access video resources to supplement their online classes. Now, it's easy."

Looking ahead

ClickView continues to support more equitable and inclusive learning at Howick College. By removing barriers to access, students no longer rely on external streaming services or devices, ensuring everyone can engage with the same content regardless of their circumstances.

"ClickView helps us ensure equity for all our students - they don't need access to a streaming service, or even a TV. If you've got access to the internet, that's all you need."

Final word

For the library team, ClickView has become a core part of resource management—seamlessly integrating video into the catalogue and making high-quality content instantly available. Combined with responsive support, it provides confidence that teaching can continue without disruption.

"Students can search via the catalogue and view resources immediately through the link to ClickView. If there's a problem, you've got really quick help… I can flick off an email and someone will answer."
